Please join us for an Artist Talk in Conversation with Eva Obodo, moderated by curator Ugonna Ibekwe, on Saturday, March 29, 3 PM, during Lagos Gallery Weekend.
Eva Obodo is a professor of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, specialising in sculpture. Obodo will speak about his current exhibition, Dry Season, which features recent works incorporating charcoal and thread. Obodo experiments with material processes as a metaphor to comment on the social, political, and personal ecosystems of Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
Obodo's current exhibition, Dry Season, refers to the harsh ecological period when resources are scarce and survival of natural vegetation becomes a delicate negotiation. Several series within the exhibition offer critiques of political institutional dysfunction, while others explore interpersonal dynamics and social proximities. Obodo’s work also engages with themes carrying deep religious implications across various faiths and addresses contemporary economic challenges.
